The Rules of the Game

1. The List:

We picked the Telegraph's list of 100 Novels Everyone Should Read because it was ranked high in Google and had a lot of books neither of us had read on it. We really didn't research much. At all. The upside of the list is that it spans a whole heck of a lot of times and places in literature and it's got cute little quotable descriptions of each book. Plus we already own 1/10 of the list. The downside of the list is that they consider entire series as "novels" so things like the Rabbit Books by Updike and pretty much every fucking thing by Proust is on there.

2. The Players:

Hi, I'm Loki. Shondra is downstairs somewhere. We're best friends, geekettes, avid readers, Alaskans (because that matters apparently) and Shondra is a ninja who lives in my basement. We are playing co-op this time around so there won't be a lot of trash talking. I will probably think of more to put in here (or Shondra will) when I'm not stupid exhausted.

Nelly Plum is not a player. She is my mother. She has read everything...almost.

3. The Game:

Read all the books. We have 100 index cards, each one has the title of one of the books on it. We shuffle the deck and pick which book we're going to read next.

We each have five 'Pass' cards that we can play at any time. Then that player can reshuffle the deck and pull another card. Beware, if you pass on Crime and Punishment then you may end up on Proust.

We both have read several books on the list. If you pull a book that you've already read you have the option to either re-read or pass. Beware the re-read though, if you choose it than you are stuck with it, even if you decided to re-read The Grapes of Wrath because you remember how much you loathed reading it in high school and you believe your taste is so much more sophisticated now, Loki.

4. Blogging:

I don't know what the hell we're going to write yet. Our impressions on the books. Ranting about being stuck on the books. Madeleine recipes. Anagrams for Crime and Punishment (Mismatched Prune Inn)

Language will be salty and there may be things that pop up that aren't safe for work. That's just us.
